Private wine production in the old old times
Two or three thousands years ago, an abundant wine culture already exisfed. Later, when the aboriginal Taiyal, Bunun, and Thao groups occupied the Puli basin Yuche and Sun Moon Lake areas of Pushe (Pulishe) of the Bunun system and the Meishe (Meilishe) of the Taiyal system, the custom of using locally grown grains (millet) began to brew sour and sweet wines for drinking during festivals.
In 1602, under the Dutch occupation of Taiwan, the East Indian Company was established, which strongly requested that residents grow sugarcane and yams. Thus, at that time, farmlands near the Puli basis also made some sugarcane wine and molasses wines.
In the Qing dynasty, many Pingpu tribe people and Han people moved to the Puli basin.they used intricate methods of sedentary rice-paddy planting using irrigation to allow for stable livelihood of its people, gradually as they had in their harvest surpluses they use rice and fruit to make wines to use for worshipping gods, ancestors, and for drinking.
