The Brief Introduction of Chiayi Distillery

Chiayi Distillery was also known as Da Jheng (Taisho) Wine Co.,Ltd.,Chiayi Workshop run by a Japanese called Asashi Hatsutaro in 1916. In July 1922 the Japanese implemented wine monopolization system in Taiwan. The Chiayi Distillery was immediately subordinated to Tainan Branch of Taiwan Government General Monopoly Bureau. In 1924 Chiayi Branch was established. The Chiayi Distillery was then subordinated to Chiayi Branch. In 1946 The Chiayi Distillery isolated from Chiayi Branch. In January 1947 it was renamed as The Sixth workshop of Taiwan Wine Business Company. In May 1947 it was renamed as The Sixth Distillery of Taiwan Tobacco and Wine Monopoly Bureau. (TTWMB) In June 1957 it was renamed as The Chiayi Distillery of TTWMB. On July 1, 2002 Taiwan Tobacco and Wine Monopoly Bureau was reorganized as Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation (TTL). Then this distillery was renamed as Chiayi Distillery of TTL.

The former Chiayi Distillery had 4 acres in Chiayi City. In order to meet Chiayi City development and increase production, Chiayi Distillery was relocated to Minhsung Industrial Pork over 28 acres approved by Taiwan Provincial Government in 1979. In the first stage, Shaohsing Chiew Workshop was built from 1983 and completed for mass production in 1988. The Production of Shaohsing Chiew is 60,000 HL per year. In the second stage, Kaoliang Chiew Workshop was established from 1990 and completed in 1998 for producing 100,000 HL Kaoliang Chiew and Liqueur per year. Since the market need of Shaohsing Chiew has declined drastically since 1995, Shaohsing Chiew Workshop stopped production. Chiayi Distillery focuses on producing Kaoliang Chiew and Chinese Herb Liqueurs to meet the demand of local and global market.

After the Restoration of Taiwan in 1945, Chiayi Distillery only produced Pai Lu Chiew and Chinese Herb Liqueur. In 1950 Kaoliang Chiew was researched and developed successfully and became the base liquor to produce a series of products. Currently we produce yusan-Brand kaoliang chiew ( Mau Tai Chiew, Special-Grade Kaoliang Chiew, Special-Grade Kaoliang Chiew 38°, Wu Ba Jin Kaoliang Chiew , Kaoliang Chiew Extra, Kaoliang Chiew XO, The Cheu Kaoliang Chiew, Wu Liang Chen Chiew )yuher-Brand liqueur ( Seng yong Chiew, Chu yeh Ching Chiew, Ng Ka Py Chiew, Ho Shou Wu Chiew )yuchyuan-Brand Shaohsing Chiew ( Premium V.O.
